Speedy Hire expands its fleet of electric vans

Speedy Hire is expanding its fleet of high energy battery-powered delivery vehicles. Last year, Speedy was the first company in its sector to introduce the vehicles, deploying four of the electric vans to carry out deliveries in London.

The company is now expanding the fleet with a further a further six vehicles being delivered to sites in Heathrow and Manchester. The new Speedy vehicles are manufactured by Modec, which also supplies vans used to make home deliveries by Tesco.com.

Mark Turnbull, safety, health, environment and quality director for Speedy Hire said: “Over the past five years we have introduced initiatives that have enabled us to reduce our average CO² emissions by 12 per cent. Environmental performance is becoming a key purchasing decision for customers – not least because it now plays an important role in prequalification questionnaires. We are continually looking for new and innovative ways to help our customers reduce their impact while enhancing their bid credentials.”

Roger Atkins Modec sales director, said: “Speedy Hire has been a supportive partner during the development of the Modec vehicle and it’s great to see the company demonstrate its commitment to environmental issues. We’re confident that the vehicles will support Speedy in its goal of reducing CO2 emissions.”
