The search is on for 20 drivers to take part in phase two of a trial to test the UK’s first ever electric MINIs. Phase one of the trial is currently underway, the first 20 MINI E pioneers took ownership of their electric MINIs in December 2009 and are due to hand them back in June. The first stage of a Government-supported UK-wide project to trial electric and ultra low emission vehicles has begun in the West Midlands. The keys to 25 Mitsubishi i-MiEVs (Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle) were given to independent drivers – including automotive expert Quentin Willson – to test over the next 12 months by the CABLED (Coventry and Birmingham Low Emission Vehicle Demonstrators) consortium in Centenary Square, Birmingham.

GoGo Electric, London’s first non-membership electric car hire company, says that the bulk of its customers are private motorists living on the outskirts of the city who want to try out electrics as potential ‘early adopters’.
