If the popularity of Top Gear and the success of the scrappage scheme weren’t proof enough, the Brits' love affair with the car is far from over according to a new study by Europcar. EarplugShop: Driving a convertible car can cause serious ear damage(16/10/2009)
Research published in the journal Otolaryngology found that at 50, 60 and 70 miles per hour, the noise to the left and right of a convertible car driver reached between 88 and 90 decibels. This is much higher than the generally agreed 85 dB threshold level at which permanent hearing damage becomes a risk.
