According to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), just 812 buyers have taken up the Government’s £5000 Plug-In-Car Grant so far this year, suggesting that electric vehicles are still too expensive for most consumer and fleet buyers.

Speedy Hire has taken delivery of 19 of Ford’s super-efficient Transit ECOnetic vans. The Ford Transit ECOnetic was selected for its superior fuel economy, tax benefits and best-in-class CO2 emissions.The Ford Transit ECOnetic vans, supplied through Ford dealer Gordons of Bolton, will be used by Speedy’s engineers to provide rapid and efficient transport for maintenance calls around the UK. They join a fleet of around 2,000 vehicles – exclusively Ford.

In addition to burning less fuel and creating lower levels of emissions, Manchester’s hybrid electric buses have been helping the environment in more ways than one in recent weeks. Eco-driving minimises the use of both brakes and accelerator, so driving is more smooth and less energy is wasted.
