Europcar has pre-ordered 500 Renault electric vehicles for delivery in Europe’s largest cities from the 3rd quarter of 2011. Renault has announced its cleanest production car yet with the new dCi 86-powered Clio, emitting just 98 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
Set to be available in three- and five-door guise, the new versions offer not just reduced guilt driving, but also the promise of lower fuel consumption, at 76.3 mpg (combined cycle, an increase of 12.1 mpg) and a theoretical range of 923 miles between fill-ups.

In the Pre-Budget Report, Chancellor Alistair Darling announced that he would be exempting electric cars from company car tax from April 2010 for five years, with electric vans also benefiting from van benefit charge exemption over the same period. He also announced the introduction of a 100% first-year allowance for companies purchasing electric vans, enabling them to offset the cost of buying one of these vehicles against their corporation tax bill in year one.
