Fiat Automobiles' average CO2 emissions figure on cars sold in Europe during the first half of 2009 has dropped to 129.1 g/km. The new figure – corroborated by automotive advisory JATO – means that Fiat is the only mainstream car brand to achieve the European average goal, of 130 g/km by 2015, five years early.

Ford has an aggressive plan to put at least four electrified vehicles on the road in North America by 2012, including a new Focus BEV in 2011, as well as new hybrids and a plug-in hybrid. SEAT debuts low CO2 versions of the recently-revised Altea, Altea XL and Leon at next week's Frankfurt Motor Show.
